An Other Theater Company is calling for submissions of full-length, original plays by transgender playwrights which focus on some aspect of the transgender experience and feature at least one transgender character. 

​

Plays will be read and considered by a panel consisting of AOTC’s Artistic Directors and a cohort of local transgender theater artists.

​

Three finalists will be selected to receive readings at An Other Theater Company during October 2019 (UPDATE: Now Late February/Early March 2020). After these readings, one will be selected to receive a full production as part of An Other Theater Company’s 2020-2021 season for which playwright will receive a $500 stipend to be paid upon opening night of the production’s run.

UPDATE: While An Other Theater Company is especially interested in playwrights local to Utah, this call for submission is open to playwrights from all locations. (Note: no travel stipends are available.)

The entry period has been delayed from 8/1/19 through 8/17/19 to 10/1/19 through 10/31/19. Application will be available on this page beginning 10/1/19.  You may sign up below for updates on this call for scripts.

As entries will be blind-read by a committee, please leave your name and any identifying factors off of all scripts. 

​

Updated Submission Requirements:

• Playwright must identify as trans.

• Play must focus on some aspect of the transgender experience and feature at least one trans character.

• Play may not require more than 8 actors. (More characters, with suggested doubling, is okay.)

• Play must be full-length. (No fewer than 35 pages. No more than 100.)

• While not a requirement, a play’s stageability will be heavily considered.

What to Submit:

• Script in PDF format with Title.  No information identifying the playwright may appear on this copy of the script.

• 3-5 page sample from script in PDF format with Title.  No information identifying the playwright may appear on this sample from the script.

• Upon submission, the form to submit will ask for the following info:

  • Title

  • Playwright’s Name

  • Contact Info

  • City of Residence

  • Up to 500 word description or synopsis of play.
